Step 1: Search Bar

The first step in locating a cheap textbook is to use the search bar. You can search for your textbook by using the ISBN, Title, Author or Keyword. The ISBN is the most sure fire way to locate the exact textbook you need, since an ISBN is specific to each textbook title (Click HERE for an explanation of what an ISBN is and where to locate it on a textbook). In addition, if you have the ISBN, you will skip the next step and the software will take you directly to the price comparison page (Step 3). If you don’t have the ISBN, it’s not a problem. Just type in a Title, Author or Keyword in the search bar and the software will quickly show you a list of textbooks to choose from.

Step 2: Search Page – Select the Textbook you Want to Price Compare

Once you’ve entered your search term, you’ll be brought to a list of textbooks that match your search. If you find the results aren’t exactly what you expected, then you can just broaden or restrict your search. For example, if you searched for “history” you will find a very long list of possible textbooks to select. Therefore, it would be wise to restrict your search by adding a term. For example, you could search for “Greek history” in order to limit your results. Consequently, if you find your search hasn’t produced enough results to choose from, you can expand your search. For example, if you searched for “Greek history during the age of Alexander the Great” and you aren’t getting good results, you can adjust the search to be more expansive by removing some terms. For example, the search query “Alexander the Great” would yield a lot more results specifically about Alexander the Great. In addition, you can further limit your search by selecting a “binding/format” button at the top of the search results. Once you’ve found the textbook that you want to price compare, click on the “Find the Cheapest Price” button to the right of the textbook. This will take you to the price comparison page.

Step 3: Price Comparison Page

The default textbook price comparison results will show you cheap textbook prices for “All” conditions combined. These conditions include: Used, New, Rent, and eBook. If you know you only want a certain condition, then select the tab for the condition you want and the software will show you the cheapest prices for that condition. On this page, there are six columns. The first column is “Store” and it shows the store that you would be purchasing your textbook from. The second column is “Condition” and this column shows you the condition of the textbook. Condition types are New, Used, Rental and eBook. Rental and eBook selections will also show the date the textbooks either need to be returned back or a date that they will expire. The third column is “Coupons & Deals” which show any available deals from the store in the first column. Typically the deals are for free shipping or dollar off coupons, but they can also be for other things like solutions manuals. The fourth column is the “Price”. This shows how much the store is offering your textbook for. The fifth column is “Shipping”, which shows how much the shipping is from the store in the first column. The sixth column is the “Total”, which shows the price of the textbook, including shipping. In addition to that, it also shows what percentage you saved from the price of a new textbook. Once you’ve determined which store you want to buy from, click on the “Buy Now” or “Rent Now” button. This will redirect you to the selected store so that you can finish your purchase and buy or rent the textbook. If you are having trouble deciding whether or not to buy or rent, we have a recommendation tool located between the textbook image and “Cheapest Price Summary” at the top of the page. This tool gives you a recommendation based on current market conditions. If you click on the tool, you can change the default settings to better match your exact situation.
